Welcome to the home of Anne’s textile creations.

Anne de Nooijer is a contemporary textile artist working under the name Studio Frannie. Originally from the Netherlands, she now lives and works on Birpai Country.

Her practice stems from a place of contemplation and wonder. Through a distinctly female gaze, she explores the world around her, her inner landscapes, social issues, and pop culture. This exploration translates into vibrant compositions made from hand-dyed natural or reclaimed textiles. Anne is drawn to still lifes, humans absorbed in everyday moments, and the occasional landscape, focusing on details and objects that reveal the inner workings of her subjects.

The woven elements in her work evolve organically, guided by instinct and intuition, while sewing requires precision and planning. The interplay between these processes creates a sense of balance within her practice. Her environmentally conscious mindset leads her to honour the natural cycle of life and to work with materials sourced sustainably or through community networks, ensuring her art practice threads lightly on the earth.

Anne’s artworks are intentionally ephemeral, made almost entirely from natural materials that will one day return to the soil and disappear. This impermanence is central to her philosophy, reminding her that art, like nature, exists in a constant state of transformation. She often finishes her pieces with inks and watercolours made from the remnants of her natural dye pots, adding subtle layers of texture and depth.

Her work has been exhibited throughout Australia, and she has been a finalist in several national art prizes.
